Snow Squall

edit David Janes 2006-10-12 20:42 UTC 2 comments  ·

We just had a snow squall move through; first snow of the year. The airport is reporting winds up to 85 km/hr which is just a touch below Storm Force. Trinity-Anne and I ran out and got our faces covered in flakes.

We're supposed to sail on the weekend but with the marine forecast for Gale Force winds, well, we'll see.

Fun weather fact: if you look at the radar right now, you can see lake effect snow AND you can see snow turn to mixed to rain as it passes over the Toronto heat island.

You don't happen to have a picture of that radar, do you?  Because I don't see any sort of heat island over YYZ.  Over YTR, sure, but I have no idea where that is...

Also, it was apparently totally snowing in Mississauga, and even down at Front and University we got a couple of minutes of gentle flakes.

Sorry no -- it only really made sense if you watched the progression, and that's a little more difficult to record (and Intellicast does all it can to hide the data). Next time I'll record it.

What you would have seen is blue bands moving toward Toronto, turning red and then green as the atmosphere heated up.
