Global Warming: Here, Now; report to be released over next 4 years

CBS:

The world's global average temperature has risen about 1.2 degrees Fahrenheit from 1901 to 2005. The two warmest years on record for the world were 2005 and 1998.

What they mean to say is that the warmest year on record was 1998; that doesn't sound very impressive though.

Sneaky of them. I'm surprised we don't see the F temp quoted more in Canada, sounds more ominous.

As per RealClimate.org's 'best of 2006' list (and other GW sites), we are now involved in making a 'bizarre' claim.

Most bizarre new contrarian claim:
"Global warming stopped in 1998".
By the same logic, it also stopped in 1973, 1983, and 1990 (only it didn't).

Well, of course no one who says 'there's been no warming since 1998' is saying that GW has stopped - who the hell knows?!  A fact is being stated in that it hasn't warmed since 1998; it isn't an attempt to state proof about what's happening either way in the climate change process.  Yes, recently it's warmer than its been over the last few centuries.  But, given runaway CO2 emissions, it's at least noteworthy to mention that the temperature hasn't been following the emissions levels directly.  What's 'bizarre' about making this observation??

People who claim the above statement is bizarre will be ready to climb on board the IPCC wagon and talk about how the oceans have been warming since 1995 (but what about since 2002?? - it runs the other way - how bizarre!).
